Michael D. Nelson is CEO and Managing Partner of Eagle Bay Family Office, an independent advisory firm serving wealthy families nationwide. Eagle Bay Family Office delivers comprehensive family office and investment advisory services for wealthy families, with a particular focus on governance, judgment, and the integration of financial, legal, and advisory considerations across generations. The firm is structured to provide objective advice grounded in transparency, long-term stewardship, and advocacy for the families it serves.
Michael leads the firm’s organization and is responsible for its strategic direction, its most complex client relationships, growth initiatives, and talent development. In this role, he works closely with families facing consequential decisions that require thoughtful judgment, discretion, and coordination across multiple disciplines.
Michael brings more than three decades of experience spanning legal, investment, and advisory disciplines. His background includes tax and corporate transactions, investment management, portfolio construction, risk management, derivatives, due diligence, and the coordination of sophisticated advisory teams. He applies this experience today as a senior advisor focused on integration, judgment, and long-term decision-making for families.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Finance, a Juris Doctor with an emphasis in tax and corporate transactions, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.
