Alberto Bacó Bagué is a lawyer, a certified public accountant (CPA), recognized as a strategic business advisor, developer, promoter, and ambassador. He is currently a Co-founder and Managing Director of RE Capital LLC, a private capital fund that develops hospitality properties in Puerto Rico. He is also founder and director for Partnership for Modern Puerto Rico, a non-for-profit organization focused on economic development and improvement of life quality in the Island. “My vision for Puerto Rico’s economic future is to maximize the Island’s potential as a strategic services hub and explore opportunities in different industries that can benefit from Puerto Rico’s talented human capital and business environment.” Bacó participates in the board of directors of leader companies and closely held family offices as well as portfolio companies of his investments.
In September 2023, Alberto was included in the third edition of the List of the 500 Most Influential People in Latin America, selected by the editorial board of Bloomberg Line. This list highlights Latin American leaders who are transforming the world in various sectors. The criteria used for the selection of names include value creation, promotion of innovative ideas and contribution to economic growth in Latin America.
Bacó has held different positions both in public and private business sectors in Puerto Rico. Working for the Government of Puerto Rico he developed strategies and public policy to foster the Island’s economic growth, bring investment and create jobs. In 2013 he was appointed Secretary of Economic Development and Commerce by the Governor of Puerto Rico, and in 2016, he also assumed responsibilities as Chairman and President of the Government Development Bank for Puerto Rico. Bacó served as President of the Puerto Rico Economic Development Bank from 1990 to 1993. Previous to that, he was Executive Vice President of the Puerto Rico Government Development Bank from 1989 to 1990. He also served as General Counsel at the Office of the Commissioner of Financial Institutions from 1986 to 1989 and was a member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Puerto Rico from 2004 to 2006. In the private sector, Bacó was President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marvel International and Bohío International from 2005 to 2011. Bacó graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Puerto Rico in 1979, and a Juris Doctor in 1984.
