James Connor

Chief Executive Officer
Sygnus Capital Puerto Rico

"Delivering compelling returns to investors by enabling economic opportunity for businesses and communities."

James Connor has been a reliable force behind the emergence of alternative investments as an increasingly relevant source of capital for small and middle-market businesses in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, particularly those providing essential products and services. He leads his team in staying true to a dual mission: delivering compelling risk-adjusted returns to investors while addressing some of the most pressing needs and high-potential opportunities that would unleash more inclusive prosperity.

With an extensive background in commercial private credit investments, James was a founding partner and CEO of Acrecent Financial, which became Sygnus Capital Puerto Rico in December 2023. Under his leadership, the firm established Puerto Rico’s pioneering platform of impact private credit funds that is central to Sygnus Capital and a source of transformational credit access to dozens of businesses annually across multiple industries.

Throughout his career, James has led teams in deploying over $3.5 billion in capital and raising more than $500 million in equity and debt, supporting thousands of businesses.

Earlier in his career, James worked nearly a decade at GE Capital, where he rose to the position of President of Caribbean Operations. In this role, he managed a portfolio exceeding $1 billion, serving more than 3,000 businesses across the region. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from Columbia Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management from Purdue University Daniels School of Business.
